Lithuanian scouting
Lithuanian Scouting organization is a public, voluntary, non-political organization, acting according to the purposes, principles and methods of scouting education open to all inhabitants of Lithuania in no distinction of race, nationality, religion, gender or social standing.
In Lithuania the scout movement started in 1918 when Scoutmaster Petras Jurgėla-Jurgelevičius established the first scout troop in Vilnius.
When the Soviet Union has occupied Lithuania on 15th June, 1940, the activity of The Lithuanian Scout Union was suspended and was renewed in emigration.
On 29th-30th of April, 1989 the reconstituent assembly of The Lithuanian Scouts took place in Vilnius, capital of Lithuania, and Scout movement was officially reestablished.
The Youth Programme of Lithuanian Scouting offers a wide range of methods and activities for the overall development of children and youth responding to their particular needs and interests. According to the age and experience scouts in Lithuanian Scouting are divided to cub scouts (6-10 years old), scouts (11-14 years old), ventures (15-18 years old) and rovers (over 18 years old). In Lithuania there are land, sea and air scouts’ troops.
